One of the biggest holiday distributions for those in need within Hamilton County is done by Good Samaritan Network (GSN). GSN serves thousands during the holiday season. This started at thanksgiving and extends through Christmas. The biggest period and activity, however, is on December 9th this year.
On December 9th, GSN will serve thousands in the community. They will provide household items, clothing, food, and of course toys to help make Christmas and the holidays a little better for thousands who might otherwise not be able to afford such things. Thousands are served.
To serve thousands on December 9th, it takes a lot of work. In fact, GSN is looking for over 2,000 volunteers to help between December 3rd and December 9th. They currently have 751 people signed up to help, but still have 1,362 volunteer slots open. The number of volunteers alone should help emphasize how big of an event this is.
The event is at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds in Noblesville. Volunteers do a variety of things. You can find the signup lists for each day at https://ivolunteer-gsn.ivolunteer.com/christmas_holiday_assistance_2023 . The current need each day is:
Confirmed | Open Slots | |||
80 | SUN (Pre Event Prep) | Dec. 3 | 10
64 | MON (Pre Event Prep) | Dec. 4 | 176
26 | TUE (Pre Event Prep) | Dec. 5 | 214
59 | WED (Pre Event Prep) | Dec. 6 | 204
113 | THU (Pre Event Prep) | Dec. 7 | 191
103 | FRI (Pre Event Prep) | Dec. 8 | 248
306 | SAT (EVENT DAY) | Dec. 9 | 319
751 | Volunteers | 1362 |
Most volunteer slots are for two hours between 10:00am and 5:00pm; however, you can volunteer as little or as long as you like. On the day of the event, some of the open volunteer spot include delivering items (“Drop and go”) as well as other roles.
Volunteering can include younger helpers as long as they can follow instructions and are supervised. This is a great event where you can include your tweens, teens, or other children along with yourself in the volunteering.
And of course, if you don’t have time to volunteer, GSN continues to collect donations up until the event. You can drop things off at the fairgrounds when the volunteers are there. New and “like new” (gently used) toys are appreciated. GSN also takes bikes including those that might need minor repairs.
This is community helping community. If you can, please be a part.
